Breaking News! A Wonderful Fall Morning

Last night I went to the barn after a busy day at work. I had the whole barn to myself and put out my little herd in the roundpen where you see Hailee standing in this photo. The sun was that wonderful late afternoon Fall muted sunlight that falls golden all over. Violet looked radiant against the seasonal leaves and the harvested corn field. Hailee was gorgeaus. And Renny adorable. I got the barn to myself and got to blanket, feed, and shut up the place. That's rare for me to have that treat -- and it was just right on this sunny muted Fall day! There is nothing like the sound of a barn full of horses eating. I am pretty sure He intended that noise as the sound of celestial contentment.

Anyway, I went back to the stable this morning early and it was a beautiful drive out. The fields look great in their post-harvest state and the leaves are changed and falling. And we had a fog that deepened the closer I got to Showgate. I visited with my herd, took Violet for a long-line drive around the farm and down by the road, had a nice quiet ride, chatted with Coy, and let my mare and yearling enjoy a morning in the roundpen. Coy and I talked about Doc Bar, War Admiral, Man o' War, Black Gold, Beggar Boy and Seabiscuit. He talked about his childhood and I prattled on about the Throughbred Training Center. I love talking horses with people and Coy is very knowledgeable about the Western side of my equine family. Turns out Doc Bar, a relative to Hailee, was a failed race horse, but was savage and tough and eager about running down cows! Vi is a very mouthy curious girl and so when I showed up this morning, she gave me her face so that I could see that she had cut and blistered her lip, poor girl. She probably hurt herself chewing some sharp object. Ugh. And I noticed that my little guy has gained a lot of weight since he switched from baby grain to regular. So, I am asking that he be cut back.

But here's what's funny. Coy went to bring Hailee in and she slipped away from him and took off blazing across the cut cornfield through the mist and sun. She looked so pleased with herself. She lifted her beautiful tail and held her head high. She was all that and a bag of chips. So, Violet and I and Coy and Barbie went after her. And I am super duper ear-to-ear proud that Hailee waited with quiet patience and trust for me to retrieve her. I know it's not nice to say, but one of the very nicest parts of my life is the fact that these three amazing wonderful equines love, trust and respect me. They really see me as an integral part of their herd life. Namaste!

Docs Blue Rock Dawn and My Girls!

Here is a photo of Hailee right before Christmas. I stopped by to see her before heading up to my sister's house. Hailee's mom is Docs Blue Rock Dawn. And you know how I always say that Hailee gets her agility, athleticism, grace, and quickness from her daddy's side through Easy Jet.

Well, her mom's side is pretty stacked on speed, resilience, laser sharp response too! Docs Blue Rock Dawn is a 1987 Quarter Horse with major amounts of cutting, reining, and racing in her background. Some of her near relatives are Doc Clabber, her grandpa, who was a superior cutting horse and western pleasure horse, reserve high point stallion, and produced many, many Reining and Cutting Horse Association babies. His daddy was Doc Bar, both a AQHA and NCHA Hall of Fame horse who is the leading sire of world champion cutters. He is the #1 all-time leading maternal grandsire of cutters and produced countless AQHA and NCHA cutting horses, including 27 AQHA champions. She's got Clabber and his kid, Clabber II, two champion Quarter Horse runners. Clabber II set two new track records, and his daddy was named the very first World Champion Quarter Running Horse and is the leading maternal gradsire of Race ROMs.

Docs Blue Rock Dawn also has Do Good, a Quarter Horse mare who served as the foundation mare for a running horse enterprise. She's got Texas Dandy an AQHA Hall of Famer, and Poco Bueno, a Hall of Famer in the AQHA, NCHA, and Cow Horse Hall of Fame. She's got Oklahoma Star who was registered as 100% foundation horse, and she's got Black Beggar, the kid of Black Gold's (Kentucky Derby winner) full brother, Beggar Boy. She also has the Kentucky Derby winner, Hindoo in this tree.

So, you can see that if a cow needs roping, a herd needs chasing, or a barrel needs circling, Hailee should be good to go through her lovely mom. In fact, I am often so very delighted and surprised by how light and graceful Hailee is on her feet. Even deep in her 7th month of pregnancy, she has the lightest, sweetest, smoothest canter, and does these relaxed, carefree, thoughtfree flying lead changes. She's truly a marvel. I wish I had a picture of her mother to see the resemblances!

Doc Bar -- Hailee's Great-Great Grandsire and namesake!

Hailee has several Three Bars connections and one is through the most famous cutting horse line of all. Her Great-great grandsire on her dam's side is Doc Bar out of Lightning Bar out of Three Bars. Doc Bar was only 14'3", like Hailee, but he had fantastic sexy style. He showed at halter 13 times, with 12 wins and 1 second. He earned 10 grand championships and 1 reserve grand championship, earning 36 national points at Halter. His greatest achievements were as a stud, since he produced the most amazing, speedy, handy cutting horses ever. He was inducted into the Cowhorse Hall of Fame. Doc Bar passed away at 36. You can read more about this amazing Foundation Horse Registry stud who shares his name with my Docs Unspeckled Rock at the following two links:
The first photo is Lightning Bar, Doc Bar's sire, the second photo is Doc Bar himself!
