Here is the Krewe of Barkus parade from January 28th in the French Quarter. It's a fundraiser for the Animal Shelter -- Jacques Mamou's favorite charity. The King of Barkus, seen here having a sip of a lovely drink, is a shelter dog!

Mardi Gras King Cake 2008!

Here is the King Cake I made for this year's Mardi Gras festivities. I can say that it was my best one yet! Now that I make my own cheese, I have a kitchen thermometer, so I'm able to get the temperature of the milk and yeast waters just right! The sweet dough wanted to rise like a creature from the Black Lagoon! Happy warm bread dough! Namaste!

Spanish Carnaval 2008!

Okay, I am late observing Mardi Gras season this year! I should have been reporting since shortly after Christmas. So, this week, I'll be posting photos from some of the parades in New Orleans, though we'll be observing Lent. Yikes!
