Hailee's New Pals



 In the background, you can sort of see her three new friends, Ben, Rocket and Scamper.  Ben  is this amazing mix of animal with some warm and coldblood in him.  He's so gentle and affectionate and loving and smart.  I just thought he had the best attitude and was a hoot.  He would be so much fun.  Rocket was a rescue mustang that really thinks he's Mr. Flashy Pants!  He was a bossy handsome hoot!  I enjoyed his company too.  You could tell that he has that mustang thriftiness and intelligence and spark of life!  I thought he was a very good-looking animal.  And then Scamper was a paint stallion with a truly remarkable vivid pattern of black and white.  He's a handsome well-put-together creature.  And for a stallion, he's very gentle, obliging and polite.  I was so impressed.  When I first arrived at Paula's farm and we went into the pastures, Hailee was quietly hanging her head over the fence, chatting with her three buddies about their plans for the weekend!  She looked so cozy and comfortable and happy about her pasture buddies!

Hailee's New Life

Paula has spent her life rescuing and caring for horses.  And she is skilled at taking care of abused horses.  In fact, in one of her first emails to me, she told me that she would never abuse a horse for being abused which made my heart rest.  She has patience and is waiting for Hailee to tell her what she might like to do -- but they are hoping that Hailee will like trail riding and will eventually be a happy mare who will trail ride and camp.  I pray that this is a life's job that she takes to.  I pray that she works hard to be a good hardworking beloved girl.

My mom bought Stephen some red cowboy boots and he was just so handsome and funny in them.  He looked like a million Texan oil dollars!

Hailee's New Town

Hailee now lives in a beautiful part of our country.  She lives in Georgia right in horse country.  You can barely drive a few miles without seeing a horse crossing sign.  And she lives by so many state parks which permit horseback riding and horse camping.  She lives right outside of a cute college town with a nice town square and beautiful cemetaries.  In her town, they Georgia's oldest continuously operating bookstore, which was super cool.  And Hailee lives just a very few short miles from Tractor Supply, a good place for horse treats.  In other words, she lives in a wonderful wonderful home.

My mom got the kids some cute presents for Easter with dolls and books.  The girls loved their dolls and here are some pictures of mom reading to her rapt audience -- the story featured a detective raccoon, of course!

Hailee's Story and Rescue

So, while I was visiting Hailee, I learned more about her treatment once she left my hands and I sent her to Tennessee to learn cutting and reining.  She was very quickly taken to a large livestock auction sale in Cleveland, Tennessee and was put in a pen with many many other horses.  Her two new winter blankets and her new safety halter were no longer part of her property, but kept by the person I sent her to so stupidly and foolishly.  She was underweight, probably because she had to fight with other horses for poor quality food.  Hailee had never had to fight for food a day in her life.

But though I failed Hailee by putting her into the hands of someone who could treat her so callously, Hailee was blessed by guardian angels at that auction on the Friday before Thanksgiving.  Paula was sent to see her and see her need.  Paula asked the pen handlers why Hailee was with the other horses and they tried to tell her, she was just a stock animal.  But Paula could see that she'd been clipped on her fetlocks, bridlepath, muzzle, ears, and her mane had been trimmed.  She could tell that Hailee needed help.

And so, I am putting it here in print -- G*d passed a hand over this mess. I failed Hailee by putting her in the hands of two untrustworthy people.  But he protected her and preserved her and found her safety and rescue.  And by doing so, he rescued me too.  I would be destroyed, if she had "disappeared" from my life by being sent to an auction and my never knowing where she ended up.  I am grateful to Paula for rescuing Hailee and showing mercy to me.

Elena and her family moved to Texas in March and so we went to spend Easter with them.  They have a beautiful new home that is so comfortable and elegant, a large yard, and a wonderful pool with hot tub.  Everybody is doing so well and we had so much fun!!

Hailee's Family in Georgia

I went to visit Hailee in her new home in Georgia in January.  I was blessed, so very very blessed that I was permitted to visit her and her new family.  Here is a picture of her with her new mom.  Hailee looked happy and healthy and she clearly likes her new mom.  She is owned by Paula and Mark.  She lives on a farm with three other horses, two geldings and a stallion.  And her owner, Mark, is taking wonderful care of her feet.  I couldn't believe how great it felt to see her and to meet such kind skilled people.  It was one of the best trips of my life.

I am so Blessed

Count Fleet and War Admiral's granddaughter is part of my family.  Can you believe how lucky I am?
