Leroy Neiman -- Girl Jockey!

Leroy Neiman is a great American artist with almost journalistic quality and a flair for dramatic color. He is a sociologist too -- he paints the life of leisure, life of sports, and life across all social strata! He was the official artist at 5 Olympiads! In his work, he cares about "spirit," "space," and "feel." His webpage says, "Horse races hold a special fascination for him, because, 'you find the full range of social strata in one scene. And I'm there myself. I'll place a few bets, have a few drinks. It's a total experience, a constant drama.'" Here's one of his works, 'Girl Jockey!' He is a well-honored artist who in his own words likes to be "outrageous!" He gave a major gift to Columbia University to open up his namesake Center for Print Studies.
