Sweet Potatoes and Dish Towels!
So, I went and had a wonderful ride on Violet on this day and when I returned Mr. Chandler came by and gave me sweet potatoes to start the seedlings for transplanting in mid-April. He instructed me how to approach planting and growing sweet potatoes. And I am very glad for such a knowledgeable and kind neighbor and gardener.
And a few days ago, I saw Marita and she and I chatted over cross buns. We discussed how to keep fleas off of Zelia and the cats and how to grow organic pickle cucumbers and what we are going to do differently with our gardens this year. And she gave me dish towels that she had made. I shared Thelma and Louise eggs with both Marita and Mr. Chandler.
I really love my animal companions and I love my gardening neighbors.

My Cats in Catnip!

Happy Earth Day!
My horse, Violet, is a beautiful healthy thoroughbred who is excited about learning how to jump, go over ground poles, and be lovely. And my Hailee is working on being a mother! She's carrying her foal and will deliver this spring. We are blessed and glad to say Namaste to you all!
Today I am going to rake and clear my garden, and till up the grass and weeds, and get some poop from both H and V for my composting, and plan my little gardening for this year! Much love, much love, looking forward to looking out at my garden from my back door, as I can, can, can my little gifts from our Mother Earth!

My Little Stoners

I'd forgotten that I had planted lots of catnip this year and then dried and bagged it. So, in late February, I am looking in my pantry and find this fragrant bag. I pull it out, crumble the leaves for my cats, and they engage in a little feline Woodstock. You could practically hear the 60s music down the block. Arcangelo is the worst one. He just covers himself in catnip and radiates his goofy sexiness.

Breaking News! Moibeal and Hailee share a good day!

Here's a photo of my beautiful Hailee taken just this past week in beautiful Paris, Kentucky at Valentine Hall Farm! What a happy sleek girl!
Today I was out at Breezy Acres and two wonderful things happened. First, my vet, Dr. Henderson, called and said she had wonderful news about Moibeal -- that her blood work was almost normal and that she was recovering well! She just needs a smidge more antibiotics!
And the other terrific news is that Norbert and his kind family are building a stall for Hailee. And Stephanie is planning for the delivery at Breezy Acres. Stephanie has a plan for how they will keep a close eye on my girl and help me with bringing the new foal into this world.
Hailee has a wide net of kind friends -- Barbie and Tom who closely helped her become a mom and gave her a chance to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth and get in touch with her horsey nature, Doug Valentine who gave her lots and lots of consistent love and handling, so that she would know in her heart that not all men are mean (thank you, Doug!), and the Hintz's, who have not even met her yet, but are making her a nest!
Namaste.

Breaking News. Moibeal comes home.

Moibeal came home from the hospital last night. They shaved my girl like a little poodle, so they could put in her catheter. She was so relieved to be home again, and spent the evening grooming. She has to be on a broad spectrum antibiotic for the next 16 days, and it is in pill form, so wish us luck!!
She only showed mild interest in her first breakfast home, but has been busy taking naps with her mom and siblings, so I am hoping that each day brings her better health and happiness!
We're glad that Moibeal is home again!!
Namaste!

Breaking News. Moibeal is sick
This morning, Moibeal did not greet me with her happy annoyance -- happy that I was awake to feed her, annoyed because I wasn't up earlier. I called and called for her, but she wasn't around. I found her downstairs hiding and sick. She had been throwing up everywhere and was down. She wouldn't eat her breakfast and just curled up. She was gaunt. She got up just a little bit to drink tons of water.
She is now at the vet, staying overnight at the hospital. Her X-Ray was okay, but her creatinine and BUN levels were just a little high. The vet is hoping that she became ill through some poisoning. I was silly and had flowers on my dining room table from the Farmer's Market. She was chomping on them over the week and hit them hard yesterday. So, maybe she made herself a little ill. I will keep you posted. If things go well, she can come home tomorrow.

Jackass, Arcangelo, and Moibeal

Hailee and Violet also have three cat siblings in Jacques Mamou Lagniappe (Jackie or Jackass), Moibeal Edana Seiseagh, and Arcangelo Sanyama Lilidh. Jackie, Arcy, and Moibeal are all dear to me. Jackie is also a New Orleans street cat adopted as a kitten from the Japonica Street animal shelter. He pulled a bait and switch. He acted all sweet, scared, and demure and then before I even got him home, he started bossing me around in the car. Nothing has changed! He rules our home. Arcangelo is a siamese adopted from San Diego, California, invited to join our home after Teacake Whim Fuselage passed away a few years ago. He is Jackie's boyfriend. And little Moibeal is from the Wood County Humane Society. She is a lovely little grey tabby girl who tolerates her brothers' bossiness.
