The Ears that Greet Me!

I've said this before, but you have no idea how happy it makes me to walk down the aisleway of the stable, sing out a greeting to my little fella, and then see these perky ears suddenly pop into view with his little "Grandma!" expression! Love this little guy!

The Breakout!

Here is a little photo taken on August 11th of Renny and his beautiful mom, Hailee. They are goofing off and taking a peek out into the aisleway. You can tell by how sweet they are together that they love each other very much. Hailee likes having her little guy with her. She has really enjoyed her time as a broodmare!

Blaze and a Freckle

Here's my guy in the cozy dark of his stall. And I love this photo because you can see that adorable freckle, the little finger touch of an angel! I use that little freckle at the end of his beautiful white blaze and his pink nose to aim my many kisses!

My Little Pele!

b This video again was taken on June 11th, during Renny's last days at Breezy Acres. He was such a hoot. I had a beach ball for him and he used to just love playing with it. Now the videos that I am showing today and tomorrow are cute, but let me tell you, they are nothing to some of the things he could do. He was fantastic at running at top speeds and kicking that ball and making it fly across the ring. He could kick buck at it with his front legs and speed it along or he could do a double-barrelled back kick which would really launch it. Or sometimes he would miss with his double barrel and then he would do several awkward crow hops of frustration as he tried to back up while kicking to get a good launch on the ball! He was a natural soccer player! I tried to give him the ball again a few weeks ago in his pasture at Showgate. But he's too cool for school now! He acted like the ball was lame and just ignored it.

Early Morning Turnout, Breezy Acres

b This video is again from June 11th and I am writing on August 28th. In this video, I refer to Renny as perfection itself and he certainly is. He's really the sweetest little guy -- was from the very beginning, from his very first drawn breaths. I know that I relate the story of his birth as an icky thing -- how I saw his little white-encased legs in the diver's position. How he lifted his little head after a bit while he was laying against the back wall and began weaving his head like a confused dinosaur. I relate the story as though it were an icky experience. But it never was. It was always just wonderful, wonderful. From the very beginning, very beginning, I've been nothing but blessed to have this little guy in my life.

When I see this video now, I can hardly believe how much Renny's life changed by the end of that week. The video was done on Wednesday and the very next morning, Stephanie and I reached an agreement that I should move along. And Renny was moved to Showgate that Sunday. I'll never forget how shocked and surprised and baby outraged he was as Tom had him in a big hug with his tail gripped tight. Renny shrieked like a school girl as he was loaded onto the trailer. And I'll never forget how surprised he seemed to be in a big outdoor pasture with dogs, other horses, people in those first few days. And I'll never forget how wonderful it was all this past summer to arrive at 8:30 in the morning with a cup of coffee to find that Derek had let the little herd out and that little Renster was already making his rounds of the pasture, grazing, visiting the trees, testing the creek, following the girls, encouraging them to think of him as the stud!

Florida '08: Mom, Clara and Me

In this photo, we had spent a long day at a park and Emma was deep into a much-needed nap. But our little Clara was ready to stretch her body, and swim, run, and play. So, we took her to the pool and then to a jungle gym. I just love my girls! Elena is taking this photo!

Renny's Last Days at Breezy Acres

d This video is from 6am on June 11th. I am writing this on August 28th and it will be posted in late November. In this video, I am talking at 6am from his stall as my baby has his breakfast. I can hardly believe now that I used to get up at 5am in order to get things done at home before running out to feed baby and give him some brief turnout time. It was a crazy time. But you can see by his beauty and beaming health that he was a perfect little creature. My heart was filled with nothing but joy!

Florida '08: Giving Princess Ariel Advice

My sweet princess, Emma, was completely into the entire scene of breakfasting, lunching, and supping with princesses. She was quite elegant about it and always had her Belle or Snow White outfit ready. She became quite expert at all things regal, and so here is a photo of her with Princess Ariel. You can see by their chummy pose and their comfortable relaxed demeanors that they both know that they are in the company of likeminded royals. And my little Emma appears to be giving her some small piece of advice about managing royal duties, etc!

Res Nova -- Violet as a Little Baby!

Okay, so here is a photo taken in 1984 of one of Violet's baby relatives, Res Nova by Blushing Groom out of Track Robbery. The handsome gentleman is Doug Prather, a world famous photographer who, like our own Barbie Valentine, takes photos which just capture the sweet spirits of horses. Anyway, I just love this photo because it's probably a lot like what little Violet looked like as a foalllll wtih her ginger baby coat and white socks and sweet expression. I sure wish I had a photo of my own Violet as a young thing!

Florida '08: The Family at Epcot

Okay, so I love this goofy photo. One morning, we were all at the Epcot Center, and I wanted to get a photo of my family with the Epcot "golf ball" behind them and then another with the Epcot lake too. My dad would not be "obedient" and join us in a photo, but kept tooling around in his scooter. Steve could tell right away what he was up to -- he was looking for shade. So, here's a photo of us as we broke our "pose" and turned to look at that crazy old dude that I call dad! Note that Clara in the photo has declared a personal time out!

Florida '08: My Favorite Curmudgeons!

Okay, I really dig this photo taken at the Epcot Center. Our little 2 year-old girl would be a real trooper and put up with our long days, early starts, late evenings, lack of naps. But every once in awhile, she would handle her business and just declare a personal time out. She carried her trusty blanket for just that purpose. Here's a photo of her and my dad, such cuties!

Florida '08: Our Brave Clara!

Clara is just a little girl, only 2 years old! But she's such a brave creature! She bolted away from us to climb this super tall slide and then slid in this enclosed twirling twisting slides which was at least 2 stories high. And you can see in this photo that she thought it was great fun! She was brave about climbing, sliding, swimming. She's our little natural athlete!

Beautiful, sweet, darling foal. He has such a sweet calm personality. He is going to be a wonderful family pony!

Florida '08: The Elegant Giraffe

I guess I had never seen a giraffe really. But I saw at least a dozen of them at Walt Disney World that week. There were ten of them at our resort alone with 6 spending most of the time in our "backyard." I saw adult giraffe, teenagers, and the most adorable baby giraffes who hung by their mamas, much like my Renny. I missed my little guy, so you can bet that I really enjoyed seeing those beautiful herd animals early in the morning, at dusk, and late at night right before I prepared for bed. I thought the Animal Kingdom Lodge was a treasure, just for those beautiful creatures!

Florida '08: My Dad with Emma!

Here is a photo of my dad in his scooter and his first granddaughter, Emma. They look very comfortable after their satisfying breakfast, and they are waiting to tool around the Animal Kingdom Park, enjoying the sites, trying the treats, and playing! Happy pair of troublemakers!

Cute Faces Grazing!

This past summer was one of the nicest of my entire life. This little guy had a regular horsie summer, learning how to be a horse, be in a herd, have a friend, wrestle, run and graze. He had a regular foalhood. And he trusted me to take care of him. He and I were bonded.

Veteran's Day

All right, today was a busy day. I woke up, went to the stable, let out the fillies, my girls, Titan, and Renny. I visited with Barbie, Tom, John, Scott, Conor, and Brian. I went grocery shopping, and bought salt blocks for my horses. And I raked, raked, raked, and mowed, mowed, mowed until I had winterized my home! Then I spoke to Elena! She successfully bought a house, so she'll be in her own home by Christmas! I smoked a cigar. I made a beautiful yummy cinnamon-tinged Blackberry cobbler. I facebooked some friends. I got a message from Barbie that the horses were tucked in after a nice long lovely Fall day outside.

Here's something exciting about this day. As I was raking leaves and dragging them to the front of my house, I saw a big old hawk with a squirrel in its talons. It flew low and huge into the tree across from my house and I followed it down the street for about a block. Here are some grainy photos of it which do not do it justice. It was this huge bird with a huge squirrel. Makes me think twice about letting my cats out into the garden!

Anyway, Namaste to you all. And thank you to all our soldiers and veterans.

Florida '08: Enjoying the Animal Kingdom!

Here is a photo of my family on a really extraordinary beautiful sunlit morning in Florida at the Animal Kingdom Park. We got up early in order to have breakfast with Donald Duck, Goofy, and their pals. And then we were going to take a tour of Africa, ride a train through the jungle, visit animals on a nature walkway, and play, play, play, play in a big jungle gym area known as the Boneyard. We had an exhausting, drum-beating, skirt-swinging, dancing day. And we slept as deeply as we could for our naps before jetting off to the Magic Kingdom for the 'Not so Scary' Halloween! A big day!

Running in the Dusk!

Here is a dark smudgy photo of the horses turning away from the scary monster in the creek bed. You can see my little Renny putting energy into "running away!"

Better than Honour at November Fasig-Tipton

So, the farm that owned Better than Honour decided to focus their work on race-horse development, so they made an agreement to disperse their broodmares. Well, among their herd, they had Better than Honour, Kentucky Broodmare of the Year who is the mother of Casino Drive and the mother of back-to-back Belmont Stakes winners Jazil and Rags to Riches. Mind you, Rags was the first filly to win the Belmont in 105 years! Anyway, she went in the Fasig-Tipton November Sale and she sold to the fellow who wanted to keep her from this dispersal for $14million. Everyone interviewed said that she is worth every penny. She is leaving a genetic heritage which will run like a river through the thoroughbred pedigree -- a blue, blue, royal blue hen. Namaste!

Florida '08: Giggling in the Morning!

Here is a photo of my mom and her grandchildren. She could not be happier. Her girls just saw a savannah full of African animals and she knows that they are happy and ready for a day of adventures!

P17 in the Dusk!

One Sunday evening, I went out to the stable and let the horses out. Then I sat in the creek bed to get these photos of these lovely creatures!

Florida '08: A Magical Morning

Here is a photo taken one morning on our porch at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The girls were relaxing, Clara was still in her nightclothes and Emma too was in her nightdress, given that she had slept as Snow White! What a cutie! Anyway, the girls are looking out over our backyard which was filled with giraffes, zebras, water buffalo, deer, ostrich, and other amazing creatures. We were marveling that morning at the tall sweet giraffes and their babies!

Hailee Done Good!

I am so proud of this beautiful mare. She carries the blood of champions. She's got a rich Foundation heritage. But most important, she is a spectacular and sensible mom. She's taken such extraordinarily good care of her baby Renny.

Florida '08: Our Huffy Princess!

Here is a photo of Elena getting Clara ready for lunch at the Castle at the Magic Kingdom. She was getting ready to meet Cinderella, Belle, Mary Poppins, Jasmine, and Snow White, but she was fixin' to throw a fit because her mom was fussing with her Snow White outfit. Who can blame her. She was hot and she wanted that dress off. Clara would be happy to strip down in an instant, if she could be free to run barefoot!

Florida '08: Clara Dances in Water!

Here is a photo of my darling Clara at the Magic Kingdom. She was a real hoot. Her sister was determined to wear a princess outfit the entire week and mainly wanted to be Snow White. One night, I even had to sleep with a crunchy little Princess with her flouncy dress, tiara, and scepter! But my little Clara?! She was happy to wear a princess dress, but not if it was too hot or time to play. She wore the best casual clothes and would rip off her shoes and then dance in little water jets or pools. Little nature rocker girl!

Powerful Shoulder, Kissable Freckle!

Adorable. And athletic. What more could you want from an American Sport Pony! Happy Veterans Day!

Renny's First Vaccinations!

Yesterday morning, bright and early, Dr. Zimmerman and his assistant came to Showgate Stables to give Renny his first vaccinations. Renny was really unimpressed. He did not like the shot in his neck, and he backed his rear end up to the wall to avoid the shot in his rear. He didn't like Dr. Zimmerman getting fresh and feeling for his "berries that are ready for picking" and he didn't like his temperature being taken just because he had an early morning runny nose! He let the vet know about it by raising his head high and firing out uncomfortably in a sideways fashion. But he was adorable and handsome and fat and sweet and I felt badly for him! It is tough growing up and having to put up with intrusions!

Anyway, today was perfection of a day, bright, sunny, warm, the leaves are rustling and golden and falling. It was a miracle of a day. So, I went out to the stable and kissed and hugged my little fella and put him outside with his girlfriends, and then I rode the spectacular Violet who really is a gem, a big glowing red darling girl. Tom said that she was a special mare and I have to agree. I love riding her. She's so sensitive and intelligent and eager to please. She and I are a good team!

And when I put her back outside with her friends, she trotted off and then broke into a canter to catch up to Hailee, Annie, and Easy. She just looked so radiant and red and healthy, and so regal. I am so lucky to share in her heritage and to be her friend! And I am lucky to have the privilege of little Renny's trust! Namaste!

Florida '08: Waiting for the Magic Kingdom!

My mom and dad hosted my family for a week's trip to Florida. We had an amazing time, celebrating Emma's birthday, swimming, visiting the parks in Orlando, playing with the girls, and being together. Here is a photo of us taken on the second day as we are waiting to board a bus for the Magic Kingdom. We were staying at the Animal Kingdom which is an amazing resort with a nature and animal preserve surrounding the rooms and villas!

Farm Cats!

This lovely little mama cat who adopted the Valentine's had this cute litter of 5 kittens. Two were adopted, but here are the ones which belong to Barbie's girls and who will be the barn cats! Let me tell you! Last night, these little kittens and their mom went stalking mice. And one of these itty bitty little teeny tiny black kittens caught a mouse and tormented it while growling and posing and voguing. That kitten knew how to put on a torture show! Such a good mouser. And it's often very funny to see these little barn lions staring up into the rafters, following the flight of birds that their watering mouths can just taste! Teeny tigers!
