Our wait is over and all the news is good! Last night, at 2am, during a spring rain storm, I woke up at 2am and went to check on Hailee. Guess what! Her water had just that second broken and she was starting active labor. So, Stephanie came out to the barn and by 2:46, Nitro made his appearance.
Everything went great. Hailee is being a good mom and loves her baby. He's easy to love. He got up on his feet right away. He started drinking almost immediately. He passed meconium stools three times in the first few minutes, including an awfully big black one!
The vet said that he passed all his temperature, colostrum, and general vitality tests without any problem. And Hailee unproblematically passed all her placenta and is starting her life as a new mama!
And so now, I am going to go rest and enjoy life knowing that when I wake up, there's a beautiful little foal in the world and a happy broodmare!
