Full Celebration! Poggio's Retirement

While I was at Rolex, during the preliminary ceremonies before the final jumping competition, they had a retirement ceremoney for Poggio, Amy Tryon's Olympic bronze medal horse and a brave fierce competitor at Rolex and other eventing competitions. He began his life as a $400 purchase sent to the racetrack. His Jockey Club name was Chesterstimetofly and he raced four times, winning once. He then spent his time as a Western trail riding horse, being ridden 6 days a week for 5-6 hours through the Cascade Mountains. He was an agreeable happy fella who hauled around his young owner, Cassie, as well as her friends and family. She decided to upgrade, so sold him for a pittance to someone connected to Amy Tryon. He immediately showed that he was super brave, bright and talented and was jumping super well from the very beginning -- he had scope as well as a good head for cross country. The rest, as they say, is history. He is a 1992 horse, so in this photo you are seeing a 17 year-old gentleman. Doesn't he look unbelievably handsome!?!
