Danada: The Buildings!

Jorge and Christine celebrated their nuptials in a truly beautiful setting. They elected to have the reception at Danada House at the Danada Equestrian Center. This private home was bequeathed to the Dupage County Forest Preserve District and now serves a variety of purposes. But one of the main purposes is as an equestrian center to promote safe horse handling and riding practices and the protection of mustangs. They hold seminars, workshops, hay and sleigh rides, and many other events.
In 1928, Daniel and Ada Rice purchased this vast tract of over 1,000 acres when it served as a working farm. Daniel then, at Ada's request, purchased 8 racehorse yearlings from Lexington, and they never looked back. They had 20-40 racehorses in training every year at Danada, and also had Idle Hours Farm in Lexington! They were extraordinarily successful in this venture and Ada totally loved it. They kept the racehorses in her name!
The day after the wedding, this past Sunday, I went back and visited the stables and the buildings. Right now, they have mostly draft horses and mustangs, including these mammoth-sized weanlings! Everyone was very friendly and I was able to tour the setting where Lucky Debonair trained to win the roses!
